We all know the old Peter Drucker quote: “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” Yet, when we look at the immense challenge of the energy transition, so many organizations are still trying to win with strategy alone. In my experience working with companies navigating these massive shifts, having a great strategy is only the beginning. The real differentiator is an organization’s ability to execute that strategy with speed and alignment.
In this talk from the 2023 Energy Conference, I break down why nearly 75% of companies struggle with strategy execution and what we can do to fix it. We’ll look at why culture is actually the outcome of your operating system, and how the Shingo Insight model shows us that ideal results only come from ideal behaviors. Most importantly, we’ll cover the three specific disciplines—strategy deployment, culture development, and leadership excellence—that separate the organizations making real leaps from those just staying on the treadmill.
If you are trying to lead a transformation and finding that your current operating system isn’t yielding the results you need, this session will offer a different lens on the problem. We explore how to move away from leadership as “cheerleading” and toward a model of distributed leadership where leaders are actively developing the capabilities of their teams.
